The Kohlaton Book Cover

This book cover was created for J. Neal’s fantasy novel, based on a clear visual brief provided by the author. The request centered on strong, narrative-driven imagery: a hooded figure seen from behind on the front cover, facing a distant castle, and five hooded, cloaked figures on the back cover, also viewed from behind.A key requirement was for both covers to feel like one continuous visual experience, rather than separate illustrations. I approached the design as a single wraparound composition, using consistent lighting, perspective, and atmosphere to unify the front and back.Throughout the process, I focused on mood, scale, and directionality to guide the viewer’s eye across the cover, reinforcing the sense of mystery and journey central to the story. The final design balances clear storytelling with an atmospheric, dark fantasy tone while remaining fully aligned with print and production constraints.
